Cobbers fall 66-59 at St. Thomas.

Concordia rallied from a 46-30 second half deficit to take a three point lead with five minutes left at 57-54. But St. Thomas out scored the Cobbers down the stretch to pull out the win. St. Thomas improved to 15-2 in the MIAC, 18-3 overall. Concordia fell to 7-9 in the MIAC, 9-12 overall.

Late surge lifts Tommie men to 12th in row

Sophomore guard Mark Buri had eight of his 10 points in the final 4:14 to fuel a game-closing 12-2 run as host St. Thomas (18-3, 15-2) overcame poor shooting to hold off Concordia (9-12, 7-10) in MIAC men's basketball Monday at Schoenecker Arena. It was UST's 12th win in  a row.

St. Thomas, which ran its home-court win streak to 13, can clinch a t1e for the MIAC title with one win in its final three games.

The Toms broke to an 11-0 lead, led 38-28 at halftime and led by 14 early in the second half. But Concordia used a 14-3 run to take a 57-54 lead with 4:40 to go. Buri's three-pointer with 4:14 left tied it at 57-57, and Cole Butler's basket with 3:14 left put the Toms ahead to stay at 59-57. Buri hit another three with 1:01 to left to push the lead to 64-59. UST was 4-of-4 at the line in the final 40 seconds to ice the win.

The Toms shot 40% from the field, including only 4-of-25 in three-pointers, and made just 16-of-26 at the line. Concordia shot 50% in the second half and 46% on the game. The Cobbers also outrebounded the Toms 41-31.

UST had four score in double figures --- Mychal Brenden had 14 points and four assists; freshman Mark Paulson had 11 points; Kip Sparby had 10 points, six rebounds and four assists; and Mark Buri had 10.

For the Cobbers, senior Joe Ford had a game-high 19 points and Garrett Greterman had nine points and seven rebounds.

St. Thomas is now a combined 27-1 in MIAC men's (13-1) and women's (14-0) hoops in the year 2000.
