Concordia Wins Sixth Straight MIAC Women’s Golf Championship

Concordia College claimed its sixth consecutive MIAC Women’s Golf Championship posting a 36-hole score of 325--346--671 to finish 24 shots ahead of second place St. Thomas which finished at 353-342--695.  The tournament was played at Mankato Golf Club in Mankato,  Minnesota.  The
Cobbers were led by Liz Meschke (FY, Pequot Lakes, MN) who shot 79-85--164 to claim medalist honors by one stroke over Alicia Golembeski (JR, Waconia, MN) of Gustavus who finished second at 85-80--165. Concordia placed five of its six golfers in the top ten including Meschke, Jenni Kovash who placed fourth at 80-88--168, Tanya Ulvin who placed fifth at 81-88-169, Jill Conrad who placed sixth at 85-85--170 and Maria Amlen who placed seventh at 88-88--176.  Concordia has now won 10 of the 11 MIAC Women’s Golf Championships since the tournament started in 1991.  Second place St. Thomas placed four individuals in the top ten including Katti Severson who finished third at 86-80--166, Kris
Paulson who tied for seventh at 89-87--176, Leah Wangerin who tied for seventh at 91-85--176 and Abby Owen who placed 10th at 87-90--177.  The top ten finishers receive all-conference honors.

Concordia Holds Commanding 28-Shot Lead After First Day of MIAC Women’s Golf Championships by Tim Kennedy, Gustavus SID

Concordia College posted a sparkling team score of 325 (+27) to claim a commanding 28 shot lead over second place St. Thomas after the first round of the 2000 MIAC Women’s Golf Championships being played at Mankato Golf Club.  The Cobbers, who have won five consecutive MIAC titles, were led by Liz Meschke (FY, Pequot Lakes) who shot a 79. Meschke’s teammates Jenny Kovash (80) and Tanya Ulvin (81) were right on her heels just one and two shots back, respectively.  Gustavus junior
Alicia Golembeski (JR, Waconia) is currently in a tie for fourth place with Concordia’s Jill Conrad (FY, Richland, Wash.) who both fired first round scores of 85.  St. Thomas, which was led by junior Katti Severson who shot an 86, is currently in second place with a team score of 353. Gustavus is in third place just five strokes back at 358. The final round is scheduled to begin at 9:15 am on Monday, October
9 if weather permits.  If there is frost on the course, play will be pushed back indefinitely.
