Sr. Fort Collins, CO. Shana won the 100 and 200 Yard Breastroke at the MIAC Meet. It is the third time she has won the 100, and second time she has captured the 200. Letnes and teammate Andrea Ross will compete at the NCAA National Meet on March 8-10. |
2/16 Concordia Finishes Sixth
at MIAC Championship Meet.
Concordia finished sixth at the MIAC Championship Meet. It is the fourth
straight year that the Cobbers have finished in the sixth spot. Once again
Concordia was led by senior Shana Letnes (Sr., Fort Collins, CO) who continued
her dominance in the breastroke by capturing both the 100 and 200 yard
events. She won the 100 Yard Breaststroke by almost a full second, and
her time of 1:06.35 would have provisionally qualified her for nationals
had she not already qualified earlier in the year. It is the third time
in her four-year career that she has won the event. She also provisionally
qualified in the 200 Yard Breaststroke with a winning time of 2:26.04.
Her time breaks her own school record which she set two weeks ago. It is
the second time she has won that event. Letnes capped a busy championship
meet by setting a school record in the 200 yard Individual Medley as well
with a time of 2:18.20.
Other Cobber top performances included diver Andrea Ross (So., Pleasanton, CA) who finished fourth in the 3 Meter Diving event and qualified for nationals with a score of 446.15. That score also breaks the school record she set in last year's MIAC meet. She also set a school record in the 1 Meter Dive with a total of 368.80, which was good for sixth place. However, she missed qualifying for nationals in that event by 1 point. Carrie Bunger (Sr., Bozeman, MT) finished third in the 1650 Yard Freestyle with a school record time of 18:06.99.
Letnes and Ross will continuing training for the NCAA National Meet
which will be held at Erie Community College in Buffalo, NY on March 8-10.
