Cobbers Breeze Past MSU-Moorhead 139-98.

Megan Johnson (So., So., St. Paul, Minn.) comes out of the pool on her way to winning the 200-yard butterfly.

Concordia had several record-breaking performances on their way to a 139-98 win over cross-town rival MSU-Moorhead 139-98.

Cobber senior diver Andrea Ross (Sr., Pleasanton, Cali.) provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National meet with a school, and pool, record in the 1-meter dive. Her 10-dive total of 373.60 breaks her own record of 368.80 set in 2001. Her total also bests the 370-point mark needed to provisionally qualify for nationals. The other pool record was set by the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kaia Slevin (Fr., Roseau, Minn.), Holly Byram (Fr., Billings, Mont.), Jenny Berg (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) and Megan Johnson (So., South St. Paul, Minn.). Their time of 3:55.34 bettered the old mark set by St. Thomas in 1997 by only 37/100th of a second.

Even though each team won six events, the Cobbers pulled away from the Dragons due to their overall team strength. Concordia put three swimmers in the top five in every event and had two swimmers in the top three in seven events.

The Cobbers spurred on by a record, and boisterous, crowd also had several career-best performances. Elizabeth Stuker (Fr., Chinook, Mont.) lowered her time in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard breaststroke. Baret Williams (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) and Allison Lowe (Fr., Dent, Minn.) turned in bests in the 200-yard butterfly. Patricia Leinen (Fr., Newcastle, Wyom.) raced to a personal best in the 200-yard backstroke, and Heather Anderson (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) swam a "pr" in the 500-yard freestyle.

One of the highlights of the meet was the 1000-yard freestyle where Elizabeth Dougherty (Sr., Bozeman, MT) shaved 40 seconds off her season-best and won the event by a full 17 seconds.

The Cobbers will travel south for the Christmas break. The team will spend a week of training and competition in the Bahamas. They will swim against Carthage College on January 3rd and then return home before swimming at the St. Kate's Invitational on January 18th.
