Cobbers Send Seniors Out in Style; Double Up Hamline 160-80.
Concordia seniors (L-R) Carrie Beisel, Diana Cobbs, Elizabeth Dougherty and Andrea Ross are honored for their achievements during Concordia's meet with Hamline.

(Moorhead, Minn.)--- It was senior recognition night for Concordia, as they swam their final home meet of the 2002-03 season. The first-year, sophomore and junior Cobber swimmers made sure they gave their elders a memorable going-away present. Concordia doubled up Hamline 160-80 and won their third straight dual meet of the year.

The meet saw three pool records broken and one diver provisionally qualify for nationals. The highlight of the meet for Concordia was the 1650 freestyle as senior Elizabeth Dougherty (Sr., Bozeman, MT) had her sights set on breaking the pool record held by her former teammate and fellow Bozeman, Montanan - Carrie Bunger. Dougherty not only set a new pool record but she smashed Bunger's record by almost 10 seconds. She swam a 18:51.75, becoming the first person to swim a sub 19-minute mile in the Concordia pool.

Diver Andrea Ross (Sr., Bend, Oreg.) continued to etch her name in the Cobber record book as she bested her old mark in the 1-meter dive by four points. Her old record for six rounds in the competition was 208.65 and set back in 1999. She hammered out a mark of 212.95 and provisionally qualified for the national meet.

Hamline's Alaina Eckhoff swam a 2:02.14 in the 200 yard freestyle to break the pool record of 2:03.42 held by Connie Pierre of St. Thomas.

Another highlight for the Cobbers was a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 yard breaststroke. Elizabeth Stuker (Fr., Chinook, Mont.) won the event by setting a personal best time by over three seconds. Shannon Brown (Fr., Missoula, Mont.) finished second setting a personal season-best time by six seconds, and Gretchen Nordstrom (Jr., St. Paul, Minn.) completed the top trio by breaking her career-best by two seconds.

Concordia will put their three-meet winning streak on the line when they swim at St. Catherine on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00pm.
