Cobbers Break School Record for Shutouts, Blank MSU-Moorhead 1-0.
![]() |
| Carmelle Johnson (Northridge, Calif.) slides the ball away from a MSU-Moorhead attacker during Concordia's 1-0 win over the Dragons. It was the team's eighth shutout of the season which sets a new school record. |
(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Another 1-0 victory for Concordia, another game-winning goal for forward Morgan Bain (Hugo, Minn./White Bear Lake HS). The Cobbers squandered numerous chances and had to wait until a goal in the 74th minute before putting away MSU-Moorhead 1-0.
It is the eighth shutout this season for the Cobbers which sets a new school record. The old mark of seven was set in 1996. It is also the third consecutive game that Concordia has not let up a goal and runs their shutout string to 282 minutes.
Bain, who was named the MIAC Player of the Week, has scored seven goals in 2003 - and five of those have been game winners. This time she was able to seal the game by stealing a ball off one of the Dragon defenders and slotting a shot past goaltender DaLee Wilkinson. Bain has upped her team-leading goal total to seven and is currently second on the team in points with 15.
Cobber keeper Jamie Savage (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount HS) made three saves in picking up her eighth win of the season. She has four complete shutouts in those eight games. Wilkinson made eight saves in the losing effort.
With the win, Concordia improves to 9-2 on the season, their best start in school history. They are now chasing the school record for wins in a season which is 12, set in 1999. The loss drops MSU-Moorhead to 2-10 on the year.
Concordia will play at the College of St.
Catherine on Saturday, October 11 at 1:00pm. That game will be the first
of four away games that the Cobbers will play. The key road contest will
be on Tuesday, October 15 when they travel to St. Paul to take on defending
MIAC champion St. Thomas. The Tommies are currently in second place in
the conference, one point behind Concordia.
