Listing of Former Cobber All-Americans
SALEM, Va.-- Three Concordia
players finished off the postseason awards portion of the 2004 season by
being named to the D3football.com All-American Team. Jordan Talge
(Sr., Moorhead, Minn.) was named to the All-American First Team, while
Nick
Didier (Sr., Helena, Mont.) and Andrew Passanante (Sr., Hawley,
Minn.) were named to the All-American Honorable Mention Team. It is the
third All-American team that Talge has been placed on, and the second for
Passanante. Didier becomes the first Concordia player in the history of
the program to be honored by four different All-American groups.
The Concordia players were
three of the four MIAC players to be honored by D3football.com. Bethel
running back Phil Porta was the only other player from the conference to
earn All-American honors. He was awarded third team honors.
The final All-American award
finishes a jaw-dropping season for Talge. Besides the D3football.com award,
he was also named to the Football Gazette All-American First Team and the
Associated Press Little All-American Second Team. The Little All-American
Team is selected from all players in NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III
and NAIA.
On top of all the All-American
awards, he was also a finalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which honors the
top player in NCAA Division III. He became the first Concordia player in
program history to be named as a finalist since the award started in 1993.
He also became the first player in five years to be named as a Academic
All-American. The award, presented by ESPN the Magazine and selected by
CoSIDA members, is given to the top student/athletes in NCAA Division II,
III and NAIA.
On the field, Talge tied
the school record for interceptions in a season (8) and was one interception
shy of tying the record for interceptions in a career. He finished the
year by leading the MIAC in interceptions and passes defended.
Passanante completes his
career by earning his second All-American honors. Earlier, he was named
to the Football Gazette All-American Third Team.
Passanante broke the school
record for most receiving yards in a single season. He also became only
the second wide receiver in program history to amass over 1,000 receiving
yards in a single season. He is only the second Concordia wide receiver
in the history of football to earn All-American honors.
Passanante led the MIAC in
receptions and receiving yards. He amassed over 100 receiving yards in
five of the team’s 12 games, and had three, multiple-touchdown games in
2004.
Didier completes his whirlwind
award season by being named to his fourth All-American Team. Earlier, He
was named to the AP Little All-American First Team, the Football Gazette
All-American First Team and was the only Cobber selected on the American
Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American Team. Didier also participated
in the Aztec Bowl, which features an NCAA Division III All-Star team against
a college All-Star team from Mexico. He was also only the fourth player
in program history to win the MIAC's Stam Award, which is given to the
league's Most Outstanding Lineman.
Didier completed his MIAC
career by being named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team for the second
straight year. He was one of the five co-captains for the Cobbers and was
the leader of the offensive line that helped Concordia lead the league
in total offense, scoring and pass efficiency and finish second in rushing.
