Didier, Dietz, Passanante
and Talge Named Football Gazette All-Americans!
The four All-American selections from one team is the single most in Cobber program history, and marks the first time since 1995 that a Concordia player has been named to an All-American Team. Tim Lowery ('96) was the last Concordia player to be named as an All-American when he was selected as a member of the All-American First Team as an offensive tackle. The quartet brings the total of Cobber All-American football players in the history of the program to 21. Only one other player from the MIAC was named to the Football Gzaette All-American Team. St. John's defensive lineman Jason Good earned All-American Third Team honors. Didier and Talge were the two Cobbers to earn first team designations. Didier was named to the All-American First Team as an offensive, and Talge was selected as a defensive back. Dietz was placed on the All-American Second Team as an linebacker, while Passanante earns All-American Third Team honors as a wide receiver. Didier carries on the great tradition of outstanding offensive linemen at Concordia. He was named the MIAC Stam Award winner at the end of the regular season, and was selected to play in the Division III All-Star Aztec Bowl in Mexico last weekend. The Stam Award goes to the most outstanding offensive of defensive lineman in the MIAC. Last week he was named to the All-West Region First Team. He was also named to the MIAC All-Conference first team for the second straight season. He anchored an offensive line that cleared the way for a Cobber offense that averaged 398 yards in total offense per game during the regular season. Talge continues to be bestowed with postseason honors. He has already been announced as one of the finalists for the Gagliardi Trophy. The Gagliardi Trophy is awarded to the top player in NCAA Division III. Talge was also named the All-West Region Defensive Player of the Year by the Football Gazette and earned All-West Region First Team Honors. Talge completed the MIAC season by being named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team. He also was honored as one of the top student/athletes in Division III by being named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team as selected by CoSIDA. On the field, Talge tied the school record for interceptions in a season (8) and was one interception shy of tying the record for interceptions in a career. He finished the year by leading the MIAC in interceptions and passes defended. Dietz puts the finish on a career that saw him earn MIAC All-Conference honors for three straight seasons. He finished the 2004 season by being placed on the All-West Region First Team. Dietz led the Cobbers in tackles for three straight seasons. He owns the school record for solo tackles in a career, and was one tackle away from tying the school record for overall tackles in a career. Dietz was part of a defense that finished fifth in the nation in rushing defense and seventh in overall defense. The Cobbers were also ranked 13th in scoring defense. Passanante is the final member of the Cobbers to earn All-American accolades. He was named to the All-West Region Second Team last week after being named to the MIAC All-Conference First Team for the second straight season. Passanante continues to follow in the footsteps of Cobber head coach Terry Horan. In the first game of the playoffs, he broke Horan's school record for most receiving yards in a single season. The two are the only receivers in program history to amass over 1,000 receiving yards in a season. He also joins Horan as the school's only wide receiver to earn All-American honors. Horan was named as an All-American in the 1986 season. Passanante led the MIAC in
receptions and receiving yards. He amassed over 100 receiving yards in
five of the team’s 12 games, and had three, multiple-touchdown games in
2004.
