Once Again Concordia Falls
By a Single Goal to St. John's.
MOORHEAD-- Once again Concordia
was forced to rally in the second half, once again the Cobbers scored two
goals in the final 45 minutes and, unfortunately, once again Concordia
lost by a single goal.
For the fourth straight game
Concordia scored a pair of goals in the second half, but couldn't keep
the Johnnie offense from rallying to score three and claim the year-ending
3-2 victory. It is the third straight year that St. John's has defeated
the Cobbers by a single goal.
Concordia finishes the season
winless in the MIAC with an 0-8-2 conference record. Overall, the Cobbers
posted a 2-13-3 mark. St. John's completes their 2004 campaign at 6-4-0
in the MIAC and 11-6-0 overall.
After conceding a lone goal
in the first 45 minutes, the Cobbers scored a pair of goals to grab a 2-1
lead with less than 20 minutes left in the game.
Sylvester Ndhlovu
(Jr., Harare, Zimbabwe/HGIC HS) scored his second goal of the season at
65:11 to tie the game, and then Brandon Root (So., Fargo, N.D./Fargo
South HS) notched home the go-ahead goal at 70:51. For Root, it was his
fourth straight game scoring at least one goal. He finished the season
by scoring seven goals in the last four games. He completes his sophomore
season by leading the Cobbers in scoring for the second consecutive year.
He finishes 2004 with an identical statistical line from 2003. He scored
eight goals and added four assists for a total of 20 points.
St. John's wasted little
time in getting the equalizer. Less than two minutes later Concordia was
whistled for a foul in the penalty area and Johnnie senior Thoralf Knoll
successfully
converted on the ensuing penalty kick to knot the score at 2-2.
St. John's scored the game-winner
with under 10 minutes to play in the game. Tyler Bosch netted his
team-leading 11th goal of the year at 84:21. For Bosch, it was his second
game-winner against the Cobbers in as many years.
The Johnnies outshot Concordia
15-7 in the game and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks. Concordia goalie
Nik
Pickett (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) made nine saves, while St. John's
keeper Eric Prawalsky made two stops to pick up his eighth win of
the year.
