All-Conference Award Recap
Pearson, Rebertus and
Sparby Earn MIAC Postseason Honors!
ST. PAUL--- Three Concordia
fastpitch players earned MIAC postseason honors as announced by the league
office on Monday. Mandy
Pearson (Sr., Watkins, Minn./Eden-Valley-Watkins HS), Jolene
Rebertus (Sr., Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS) and Lindy
Sparby Jr., Cold Spring, Minn./Cold Spring-Rocori HS) were all
awarded with conference honors. Pearson was the lone Cobber representative
on the MIAC All-Conference team while Rebertus and Sparby earned all-conference
honorable mention honors.
It is the second consecutive
year that Pearson has MIAC postseason honors. It is the first postseason
award for both Rebertus and Sparby.
Pearson completes her athletic
Hall-of-Fame career by being named to her first MIAC All-Conference Team
in fastpitch softball after being placed on the all-conference honorable
mention team last year. The award follows her two-time conference MVP and
All-American accolades in basketball.
Pearson was third on the
team in hitting in 2005 with a .294 average. She was tied for the team
lead in on-base percentage (.351) and third on the team in slugging percentage
(.402). Pearson's biggest contribution to the team came in the field where
she started every game at shortstop for the Cobbers. Her range and ability
to make plays going to her right or left made her the top defensive shortstop
in the league. She led the MIAC in assists in overall games with 106. That
total set a Concordia school record for assists in a single season.
Rebertus' award caps an incredible
career where she started every game at third base during her four-year
career at Concordia. She set school records in most games started and most
games played (133). She also set the school record in assists in a career
with 326. In 2005, Rebertus hit .252, was tied for second on the team in
RBIs (14) and fourth on the team in hits (26).
Concordia's top pitcher in
2005, Sparby was among the league leaders in conference games in ERA (2.12),
opposing batting average (.233), innings pitched (72.0) and games started
(11). She led the Cobbers in overall ERA (2.75) and innings pitched (102.1)
and was tied for the team lead in victories (5). Sparby also doubled as
the team's firstbaseman in games when she was not pitching. She hit .233
and was tied for the team lead in doubles (6) and home runs (2).
