Cobbers Continue to Roll
as They Blank UM-Morris to Win Fourth Straight.
The win pushes the Cobbers' overall record over the .500 mark for the first time this season. Concordia is now 4-3 overall. The Cougars lose their season-opener and start the 2005 campaign 0-1. The Cobbers set the stage in the doubles competition. All three of Concordia's doubles teams cruised to victories. The #1 doubles team of Jake Thomas and Jordy Kamerling won 8-1 and are now 5-2 in the spring season. Ryan Smith and Paul Tuchscherer claimed the win in the #2 doubles slot (8-5), while Eric Torres and William Wischer won their #3 doubles match 8-3. In singles play, Kamerling moved up a spot to the #1 position to give Thomas a break before the Cobbers' busy conference weekend. Kamerling continually hammered passing shots by Jon Lang of UM-Morris and won 6-2, 6-2. The most competitive singles match of the contest was at the #2 spot where Concordia's Ryan Smith held off a late charge from the Cougars' Sean Gremmels and won 6-4, 6-4. Tuchscherer improved on his team-leading win total as he pounded Eric Wietgrefe of UM-Morris 6-0, 6-2. Tuchscherer has now won five of his seven matches on the year. Concordia will put their four-match winning streak on the line, as they hit the road on a critical three-match road trip. The Cobbers will play at conference foe St. Olaf on Friday, April 1 in Owatonna, and then follow that up with matches against St. Mary's on Saturday, April 2 and South Dakota State on Sunday, April 3.
