Seventh Heaven! - Cobbers
Down Division I SDSU to Record 7th Straight Win!
The Cobbers used their depth in the singles department to overcome NCAA Division I opponent South Dakota State 7-2. After losing two of the three doubles matches, the Cobbers won all six singles matches to record their seventh straight victory. The win pushes Concordia's record to 7-3 on the season. The Jackrabbits lose their fifth straight match and are now 1-5 on the year. The lone win on the doubles slate came at the #3 spot where Eric Torres and William Wischer snagged an 8-3 win. Both players also won their singles matches. Torres was a 7-5, 6-4 victor at the #6 singles slot, while Wischer ran his 2005 singles record to 7-3 with a 6-1, 7-6(4) win at the #4 singles position. The top two Cobber players continued to struggle in the doubles department but got back on track in the singles side of play. After dropping their #1 doubles match, Jake Thomas and Jordy Kamerling rebounded to win their singles bouts. Thomas beat Jeff Everson 6-3, 6-3 to earn a win at the #1 singles spot, and Kamerling dispatched of Zac Lunak 7-5, 6-3 at the #2 singles position. The other two Cobber singles winners were Ryan Smith and Paul Tuchscherer. Smith won his sixth straight singles match by beating Steve Grautz 6-4, 6-3, and Tuchscherer rolled to an easy 6-2, 6-1 win at the #5 singles spot. Tuchscherer currently leads the Cobbers in victories. He is now 8-2 and has not lost since February 12. Concordia will try to set
a new modern-day school record for most consecutive wins in a single season
when they host St. Thomas on Sunday, April 10 at 10:30am. The record for
most consecutive dual match wins in the history of the program is eight.
That mark was established at the end of the 1992 season and the beginning
of the 1993 season.
