Meet 12: vs. Bethel - April 16, Noon Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex Meet Recap - Meet Results - Action Picture Page
Cobbers Get Back to Their
Winning Ways, Bounce Bethel 8-1.
Concordia is now 5-2 in the MIAC and 8-4 overall. Their eight overall wins is the most since the 1998-99 season when they won nine dual matches. The loss drops the Royals to 1-6 against league competition and 3-11 overall. Cobber sophomore Paul Tuchscherer becomes the first Concordia player to reach the 10-win barrier for the season. He eclipsed that mark for the second straight season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the #5 singles spot. Tuchscherer, who won 11 matches in his freshman season, is now 21-6 in his first two seasons of collegiate tennis. Tuchscherer was part of the Cobber singles crew that went 5-1. Jake Thomas, Jordy Kamerling and Ryan Smith all scored victories in singles competition for Concordia. The tone of the match was set in doubles action as the Cobbers swept Bethel 3-0. The #3 doubles team of Eric Torres and William Wischer was the first Concordia duo to put a point on the board. The tandem scored an easy 8-2 win. Smith abd Tuchscherer quickly followed suit. They beat Steve Torres and Mark Tarman 8-3 in the #2 doubles position. The best match of the day came at the #1 singles slot. Kamerling and Thomas battled Chris Scheevel and Mark Hallstrom into extra games and finally came away with a 9-7 win. Concordia will step outside the MIAC when they host Valley City State on Sunday, April 17 at 1:00pm. The Cobbers will finish the regular season by hosting two pivotal matches next weekend. On Saturday, April 23, Concordia will play Carleton at 3:00pm and then on Sunday, April 24, the Cobbers will host St. John's at 1:00pm. Both matches are slated to be played at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. The Cobbers could finish
as high as third in the MIAC or as low as seventh, depending on the outcome
of next weekend's matches.
