Meet 13: vs. Valley City State - April 17, 1:00pm Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex Meet Recap - Meet Results
Cobbers Show Maturity
as They Roll Over Valley City State 9-0.
In past seasons, Concordia would have come out flat and struggled to beat the overmatched Vikings, but on the day after Cornstalk, the Cobbers showed their maturity by overwhelming Valley City with their talent and hard work. All three of the doubles matches and all six singles matches were never in doubt as Concordia cruised to their ninth dual win of the season. The doubles teams did not allow the Vikings more than three games in any match and all the singles matches were straight sets. The victory pushes Concordia's overall record to 9-4 on the season. That is the most dual wins in a single season since the 1992 season when the Cobbers posted a 12-win season. Paul Tuchscherer continues to rack up the wins in singles competition for Concordia. "Mr. Automatic" recorded his 11th win of the season, which matches his total from last season. He is now 11-2 on the season and 22-6 in his career at Concordia. Tuchscherer made short work of his opponent at #5 singles. He bettered Rodrigo Gaitian 6-0, 6-2. The most lopsided match of the day was at the #2 singles position where Jordy Kamerling beat Jesus Navarro 6-1, 6-0. The other positive note for the Cobbers was the return to the winning circle by #6 singles player Eric Torres. After losing his last two matches, Torres claimed a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jameson Miller to pick up his fifth win of the year. Playing at the #3 doubles slot, Torres and doubles partner William Wischer are Concordia's doubles tandem. Since being paired together at the start of the conference season, the duo has compiled a 7-3 mark - the best among doubles tandems on the team. The Cobbers will finish the regular season by hosting two critical matches next weekend. Concordia will face Carleton on Saturday, April 23 at 3:00pm and then turnaround and play St. John's on Sunday, April 27 at 1:0-0pm. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Jake Christiansen Athletic Complex. Concordia can still finish
as high as third place in the conference, or could fall as far down as
sixth, depending on the outcome of the matches on the final weekend.
