The football team closed its most successful season since 1981 with a 38-0 win over the Augsburg Auggies at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis Nov. 9. Showing tremendous effort and ability throughout the season, the team finished with a 7-3 overall record and an MIAC record of 7-2, which put them in a tie with St. Thomas for second place, just four points behind the champions, St. John's. A homecoming loss to the Johnnies and a subsequent defeat by St. Olaf stifled the Cobbers' conference title hopes.
Named to the MIAC all-conference first team on defense were Russell
