Northfield, Minn., Dec. 9 - Carleton outlasted Concordia-Moorhead to capture its first MIAC win of the season, 71-66, in men's basketball action here Wedneday evening.
After a defensive-minded first half that ended in a 28-28 tie, Carleton led throughout most of the second half, relying on a trio of interior players for all but 17 total points.
Senior Josh Wilhelm (Excelsior,
Minn.) led all scorers with 24 points, despite fouling out with
four minutes remaining in the contest.
Paul Novotny (Sr./Champlin, Minn.) added 21 points and nine rebounds, and Ben Pearson (Fy./Bloomington, Minn.) contributed nine points. Brandon Moersch (Jr./Northfield, Minn.), got the ball to Wilhelm, Novotny, and Pearson with regularity, as he had 12 assists for the game.
Three Cobbers scored in double figures, with Brian Kesselring (Sr./Fargo, N.D.) leading the way with 17 points. Sophomore Mike Wrobel (Willmar, Minn.) tallied 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Matt Anderson (Jr./Starbuck, Minn.) added 11 points.
Carleton next plays at St.
Mary's University on Saturday, while Concordia hosts St. John's University
at 7:00.
