The Cobber women narrowly claimed the team title over St. Benedicts by a score of 122.5 to 120. Concordia used its team depth to prevail as 23 athletes scored. The Cobbers claimed only one individual championship.
Jen Fettig broke the school record with a personal best and fifth place pole vault performance of 9 feet 2.25 inches.
Sara Grineski was the only Cobber individual champion winning the 100 meter hurdles with a 15.20 timing. The effort makes her a perfect four provisional national qualifying performances in four meet finals. Sara was also third in the 400 meter hurdles in 65.35.
The Cobber runners demonstrated that they are progressing towards a
late season peak. A fine day on the track was led by Kelly Shannon
(5th place and PR- 2:22.36) and Julie Engh (a 7th place 2:22.70) running
MIAC qualifying marks in the 800. Joanne Maki's 800 PR, 2:24.98,
and Heather
Brenden's PR, 4:58.59, just missed MIAC qualifying standards.
Also, running Personal Records were Emily Rankin (100), Allison Daehlin
(100 and 200), Lesley Albertson (200), Angie Strom (200), Sommer Jalbert
(7th place and MIAC qualifying in the 400), Jody Moldenhauer (400), Beth
Moen (3000), and Margaret Cropp (7th palce-100 hurdles and 6th place-400
hurdles and MIAC qualifying in both races).
Heidi Brenden was second in the 1500 with a MIAC qualifying and near NCAA provisional national qualifying 4:44.32. Senior co-captain Barb Breidenbach finished second in her debut 10,000 meter run with a number 7 all-time Cobber performance of 40:41.64.
Throwing event highlights included a 3, 4, 5, 6 finish in the javelin by Amanda Glas, Kelly Seyfert, Jessica Edwards, and Alison Routledge. All marks were MIAC qualifying and Jessica's was a personal best. Karyn Senst's personal best and all-time Cobber #5 hammer throw of 138-5 led a Concordia 4, 5, 7, 8 finish. The other placers were respectively Maria DeBoer, Sam Kapphahn and Rachel Aufforth (PR). Also, In the shot put Maria DeBoer, Rachel Aufforth, Laura Utke finished 3rd, 4th and 6th respectively. Finally, Maria was third (in her third placing event of the day) and Charity Penn seventh in the discus. Other non-placing personal records were accomplished by Erin Schmidt in the discus and Angie Strom in the shot put.
Karin McGregor qualified for the MIAC outdoor with her 4th place triple jump and 6th place long jump leaps. Also, placing and MIAC qualifying in the jumps were Amy Scoville seventh in the triple jump, 3rd place tie from Angie Strom in the high jump and Lisa Hodapp eighth in the pole vault.
Relay efforts were highlighted by seasonal bests in both the 4x100 and
4x400 relays. The 4x100 quartet sprinted to a Cobber all-time #7
51.38 and included Sara Grineski, Margaret Cropp, Lesley Albertson, and
Karin McGregor. The 4x400 of Jody Moldenhauer, Sommer Jalbert, Joanne
Maki, and Julie Engh raced to a 4:11.50 clocking.
