The Cobber women's basketball team outscored Carleton 22-4 at one point in the first half giving them a comfortable lead which they would never relengquish in their 72-40 win Monday night.
The Cobbers improved their record to 4-1 in the MIAC, 8-2 overall. Carleton drops to 3-3, in the conference, 5-3 overall.
The Cobbers were led by Ann Mehrkens, who scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the game. Nichole Walla scored eight points, had nine rebounds, and blocked three Carlton shots. Holly Zollar added 10 points.
The Cobbers jumped to an early lead when Jodi Tulibaski scored when she received a pass from Nikki Swenson to open the game. On the next trip down the floor, Swenson made a no-look pass to Zollar, who was open under the basket, for another two points.
Both teams traded shots for the next five minutes until the score was 11-8, then the Cobbers simply ran away from the Carls. Mindy Schirm started the run with a three point basket, and the Cobbers would score the next thirteen points of the game before Carlton scored another basket.
Concordia went into the locker room with a 34-21 lead after Carleton ended the half on a hot streak scoring the last nine points of the half.
The thirteen point deficit was the closest the Carls would come to Concordia for the remainder of the game. The Cobbers methodically added to their lead by pushing the ball inside. Mehrkens put the game away early in the second half as she scored eight straight points for the Cobber women giving her team a 49-25 lead.
Concordia outrebounded her opponents 47-23 and dished out 23 assists in the game, including Swenson's game high of seven.
