Mention was made in the last chapter that the decade of the seventies was probably the most successful in the history of Concordia sports, but it might have to take a back seat to the eighties.
The football team captured a national crown in addition to four MIAC conference championship titles. Two first-place finishes in the conference were achieved by the basketball and baseball squads. It was the first championship for the basketball team in over fifty years.
The hockey team also clinched a conference crown.
Among the individual accomplishments, Dan Vandersteen was awarded the
prestigious Arthur Ashe award given to an outstanding NCAA Division III
tennis player.
