Men golfers round out season
After losing three of its top five players from last year, the ' Cobber men's golf team still hoped to repeat as Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) champions. But it was not to be.
"We never got all five golfers playing well at the same time," said Coach John Edsness. "We usually finished between fourth and sixth in our meets
However, Gary Martinson, a senior from Barnesville, Minn and the squad's number one player throughout the season, earned all-MIAC status by ' placing second in the conference tournament, Oct. 11 and 12, with a two-day score of 77-77-154. As a team, the Cobbers took fourth place in the MIAC meet with a 329-317-646.
The team experienced a particularly exciting moment when freshman Paul
Stageberg from Willmar, Minn., shot a hole in one at the St. John's University
Invitational at the Owatonna (Minn.) Country Club, Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
