Men's track
Twenty-one members of the Concordia men's track and field team were all-conference performers this year. The team finished third in indoor track and seventh in the MIAC outdoor season.
Named all-conference for the indoor season were Stacey Haynes '91, Saco, Mont.; John Faust '88, Harwood, N.D.; Jeff Grasto '88, Riverside, N.D.; Warren Schatz '91, Bismarck, N.D.; Todd Johnson '90 and Erik Johnson '91, hoth of Baroda, Mich.; and Minnesotans Mark Lingle '88, Park Rapids; Jay Jorgenson '88, Detroit Lakes; Greg Defor '89, Bloomington; and Bart Mueller '90, Hendricks.
All-conference members for the outdoor season were Jorgenson, Schatz, Faust, Todd Johnson, Mueller and Grasto; Clint Faust '90, Harwood; Tom Bowman '88, Creve Coeur, Mo.; Paul LaBelle '91, Missoula, Mont.; Paul Pallas '91, Sheridan, Mont.; Steve Senger '91, Billings, Mont.; and Tony Urdahl '89, Pine Island; David Schweitz '90, Cannon Falls; Kent Fritze '90, Park Rapids; Dustin Hoffman '91, Hutchinson; and Tim Dutcher '91, Roseau, all from Minnesota.
Lingle set a school outdoor record of 14 minutes, 41 seconds in the 5,000-meter run, and Defor set an outdoor record with a time of 1:51 in the 800-meter run.
Defor and Jorgenson participated in the NCAA Division III outdoor meet. Defor placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52, and Jorgenson ran the 400-meter hurdles in 53.67. Defor was also named an all-America athlete.
Coach Perry said that the men have shown great improvement over the
past years. Perry also said that the men were mentally prepared this year,
helping them to place third in the indoor standings, up from a seventh
place finish last year.
