Women's tennis place sixth in MIAC
Strong performances from several individuals helped lead the Concordia women's tennis team to a 12-3 record in dual meets for the season and a sixth-place finish in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Dr. Joyce Pavek, coach of the team, cited the leadership and playing ability of team captain Tamara Thielman, a junior from Jamestown, N.D., at No. I singles; of Kelly Oevermann, a sophomore from Cass Lake, Minn., at No. 2 singles; and of Carolyn Kramer, a freshman from Waverly, Iowa, who Pavek named the outstanding newcomer to the team.
Oevermann finished the regular season at 10-2 and placed fifth in the MIAC tournament. Kramer, with an 11-2 record at No. 4 singles, placed sixth in the MIAC.
In doubles action, the No.1 team of Thielman and Kramer was defeated
at the conference tourney in the consolation round. The No.2 doubles team
of Oevermann and Karen Brunsdale, a sophomore from Mahnomen, Minn.,
placed fourth. Oevermann and Brunsdale, who had been the No.
1 doubles pair earlier in the season, moved to the No.2 slot to improve
their record and their skills. Following the move, they were undefeated
during regular season action.
