Basketball season was 'close shave' for Cobber pair
After a fast start, Concordia's men's basketball team finished the season with 11 wins and 16 losses in the first season for Coach John Eidsness. In the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the Cobbers finished 6-12
In the Augsburg Invitational Tournament in Minneapolis during the Christmas holidays, the Cobbers claimed the trophy, an event that led to two players wearing stocking caps a great deal around campus. Junior Eric Larsen and senior Chuck Gulsvig said they would let their heads be shaved by teammates if Concordia won the three-game holiday tournament. When that happened, they tried to pacify the others by showing up for practice with mohawk haircuts, leaving a stripe of hair down the middle. The others were not to be denied, and it was easy to locate the two on the court or on campus for the remainder of the season. Larsen is from Fargo, N. D., and Gulsvig, son of sports information director Sonny Gulsvig, is from Moorhead.
