Second Game
Conc 100 000 0 -- 1 3 0
UST 130 040 x -- 2 1 0
Campion and Mueller; Curson and Altman.
2B--Mueller.
Stacy Kopels one-out single
in the bottom of the seventh scored Robyn
Altman from second base and gave host St. Thomas (27-8 overall, 12-2
MIAC) a 2-1
win over Concordia (11-14-1, 5-9)
and a sweep of their MIAC softball doubleheader Wednesday.
Altman led off the seventh
inning with a walk, took second on a
sacrifice bunt and came home on Kopels bloop single down the right-field
line.
The Tommies spoiled a strong pitching effort by Cobber senior Julie
Campion, who
allowed just one hit but walked five. UST freshman Casey Curson improved
to 11-1
on the season as she allowed three hits and walked four in the complete-game
victory in game two.
Concordia led the nightcap 1-0 into the fifth inning. St. Thomas tied it
in the fifth on a walk, a passed ball and two ground outs.
The Cobbers had a runner
reach third with one out in the top of the
seventh, but Heidi Mueller grounded out to third and Sheri Damlos sharp
liner
was caught in left field. The Cobbers left six runners on base in the
nightcap.
Cindy Frey was 3-for-6 on
the doubleheader to lead the Cobbers.
