Lady Cobbers earn berth in NCAA tourney

For the fourth consecutive year the Concordia women's basketball team competed in the NCAA Division III regional tournament. The team finished the regular season second in the MIAC with a 15-5 conference record. Two losses in the regional tournament gave the team a 16-12 overall record.

In the first round of play the Cobbers lost 68-59 to eventual regional winner Pomona-Pitzer College of Claremont, Calif. They were defeated in the third-place game 72-66 by MIAC champion St. Mary's College of Winona, Minn. Jessica Beachy, a biology major from Staples, Minn., was the only freshman named to the 12-member all tournament team. Beachy was subsequently named to the freshman all-American team and was selected as honorable mention on the all-American team.

Beachy and JoDee Bock, a senior English and communications major from Lisbon, N.D., were both named to the MIAC all-conference team. For Bock the selection was the third straight in her four-year career. Bock, who led the team in scoring for the third consecutive year with an average of 14.5 points per game, was the 10th leading scorer in the MIAC. Beachy led the conference in free-throw percentage and was second on the team in scoring.
