Cobber Qualifies for Golf Tournament
The Cobber women's golf team finished another strong season, led by senior captain Kris Elton of Alexandria, Minn., who became the first Concordia golfer to qualify for national competition.
A summary of the year shows the team won three of seven tournaments, including the Cobber Invitational, a seven-team event played at Moorhead Country Club. Concordia missed placing first by only one stroke in the seven-state regional tournament at Brookings, S.D. Much of the competition was Division II schools, Coach Duane Siverson noted, adding that the team finished the Cobber Invitational 76 strokes below last year's score.
Miss Elton is the first Concordia golfer to qualify for the national collegiate meet, which will be held in June. The site tentatively selected is Hershey, Pa. She was medalist in six of the season's seven tournaments and had a 79.1 average and a 4 handicap. In a dual meet with Moorhead State University at the nine-hole Ponderosa Golf Course near Glyndon, Minn., she had a 35, which set a course record by seven strokes.
