11/18 Concordia Finishes 20th
at NCAA National Meet.
The NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships were hosted
by Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington. Concordia sent
their first women’s team delegation to the national meet since 1990, and
returned home with a 20th place finish. Heidi
Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND) capped her Cobber cross country career with
a team-leading 44th place. Also competing were; Katie
Martin (So., Bozeman, MT) in 71st place, Heather
Brendan (Sr., Minot ND) in 141st place, Beth
Moen (Sr., Andover, MN) in 147th place, Lisa
Owen (Fr., Minot, ND) in 196th place, Heather
Shulstad (So., Fargo, ND) in 208th place and Emily
Judd (Billings, MT,) in 210th place.

11/11 Concordia Finishes Fifth
at Central Region Meet.
The Cobbers, by virtue of their narrow fifth place finish, earned their
first team berth since 1990 to the NCAA Division III Nationals. Concordia
held off Loras and Carleton, by a combined total of seven points, for the
fifth and final Central Regional spot in the National Championships.
The Cobbers were led by three All-Region performers; 6th place Heidi
Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND), 10th place Katie
Martin (So., Bozeman, MT), and 15th place Heather
Brendan (Sr., Minot ND). The NCAA Division III National
Cross Country Championships will be November 18 at Whitworth College in
Spokane, Washington.

11/02 Concordia Coach Marv Roeske Named MIAC
Coach of the Year.
Concordia Women's Cross Country Coach Marv Roeske was named the MIAC
Coach of the Year. He led the Cobbers to second place at the MIAC Championship
Meet, only 20 points behind nationally ranked and MIAC Champion St. Olaf.
The second place finish was the highest for the Cobbers since 1990 when
they won the MIAC title. The team also placed three runners in the top
nine at the meet. Concordia has placed either first or second in five of
their seven meets this year.
This is Roeske's second year as head coach of the cross country team,
he is also the head women's track and field coach where he won MIAC Coach
of the Year honors in 1998 and 1999.

10/28 Concordia Finishes Second
at MIAC Championship Meet.
Led by the trio of Heidi Brenden (Sr.,
Minot, ND), Heather Brendan
(Sr., Minot ND) and Katie Martin
(So., Bozeman, MT), Concordia finished second at the MIAC Championship
Meet. The second place finish was the highest place for the Cobbers since
1990 when they won the MIAC title. Heidi Brenden finished in second place,
sister Heather finished fourth and Martin finished ninth. All three earn
All-MIAC honors for finishing in the top 15. Two other runners received
All-MIAC Honorable Mention, they were Beth Moen
(Sr., Andover, MN) and Lisa Owen
(Fr., Minot, ND).Concordia now focuses on the NCAA Regional Meet at Waverly,
IA on November 11th.

10/20 Concordia Tunes Up for
MIAC with Meet at St. John's.
Concordia's Katie Martin (So.,
Bozeman, MT) won the individual title and Concordia tied for second as
a team at the SJU Invite. Martin's time of 12:26 over the two mile course
edged teammate Heidi Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND)
by four seconds. The Cobbers are gearing up for the MIAC Meet which is
on October 28th at Como park in St. Paul.

of 31 at UW LaCrosse.

9/29 Concordia Wins Viking Invite.
Concordia edged Jamestown College by five points to win the Viking
Invitational (Valley City State). The Cobbers were led by Heidi
Brenden (Sr., Minot, ND) who won the meet with a time of 18:57, which
was over 30 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Katie Martin
(So., Bozeman, MT), Heather Brenden
(Sr., Minot, ND) and Heather Schulstad
(So., Fargo, ND) also placed in the top ten for the meet. Next up for Concordia
is the UW-LaCrosse Invite on Saturday, October 14th.

Women's Cross Country Rankings.
9/09 Concordia Wins St. John's
Invitational.
The Concordia Women's Cross Country team beat nationally ranked St.Thomas
by winning the nine team St. John's Invitational. Concordia edged out the
field with a team score of 57 followed closely by Gustavus (61) and St.
Thomas (64). Leading the way for the Cobbers for the second straight
week was the duo of Katie Martin
(So, Bozeman, MT) and Heidi Brenden (Sr, Minot,
ND) finishing 4th in 19:45 and 5th in 20:02 respectively. Concordia's next
meet is at the 40 team University of Minnesota Invitational on September
23..

9/01 Concordia Wins Opening
meet with Bemidji State and Jamestown.
Concordia cruised to victory in their opening meet of the season. The
Cobbers were led by overall winner, Katie
Martin (So., Bozeman MT) and top five finishers Heidi
Brendan (Sr., Minot ND, Minot H.S.), Heather
Brendan (Sr., Minot ND, Minot H.S.) and first year student Emily
Judd (Billings, MT, Billings H.S.). Altogether the Cobbers placed seven
runners in the top 12 spots. Their next meet will be Saturday, September
9th at the St. John's Invitational.
2000 Season Preview
Concordia returns three experienced, and highly
successful, runners for the 2000 women's cross country season. The leaders
for the Cobbers will be the Brenden sisters, Heather
(Sr., Minot ND, Minot H.S.) and Heidi (Sr.,
Minot ND, Minot H.S.), and also Katie
Martin (So., Bozeman MT). All three have placed in the top 15 in recent
MIAC meets and they have all had success at the regional meet. Adding depth
to the team will be Beth Moen (Sr., Andover,
MN, Anoka H.S.) who was injured for all of 1999, but came back in
the spring and took fifth place in the 10,000 meter run at the MIAC outdoor
meet. The Cobbers are hoping to find a fifth runner from a large group
of sophomores and first year students so they can better their fourth
place finish in the MIAC from 1999 and make a run at the national meet.
