Toms start fast, win 18th in row

Mary Thomes had 16 points and nine rebounds and Missy Pederson had 13 points and five steals as host St. Thomas (19-1, 17-0 MIAC) ran its women's basketball win streak to 18 with Monday's 71-39 victory over Concordia-Moorhead (15-5, 13-4).

The Toms, ranked No. 5 nationally in the WBCA Division III poll, are 69-2 at home since January 1995, including 26 consecutive MIAC home wins. They beat Concordia for the 13th time in a row and extended their lead in the MIAC race to 2.5-games over runner-up St. Ben's (14-2)  with five games to play.

The Toms' defensive pressure contributed to 38 Cobber turnovers, and Concordia shot just 29% from the field (12-of-42). Sara Spears scored nine points to lead the Cobbers
