9/30 Concordia Upends Carleton 1-0.
Concordia continued their recent string of late game heroics as they
scored at 78:45 and upended Carleton 1-0. The Cobbers have scored in the
last 11 minutes of the game for three consecutive games, and all three
have produced game winning goals or an equalizer. Chance Buzzell (Jr.,
Anoka,MN)
provided the drama for the game as he finished off a goal mouth scramble
that had five players on the ground inside the six yard box. All this took
place as Concordia was playing shorthanded because of a red card violation
at 68:37. The Cobbers and Knights traded scoring chances throughout the
game and Carleton had several close opportunities but each time they were
stymied by Cobber keeper Kris Overby (Fr., Fargo,ND) who made nine saves
on the day and made an acrobatic stop off a Carleton player that had found
himself alone in front of the goal late in the game. The shutout victory
was Overby's fourth shutout of the year.
With the victory Concordia moves to 3-0 in the MIAC and 6-2-1 overall, while Carleton fades to 0-1-2 in the league and 3-3-2 overall. The Cobbers travel to St. Paul on Wednesday to take on Macalester at 4:00.
