4/18 Concordia Gets Offensive
to Sweep Macalester 3-1, 7-1.
Series Summary -
Stacie Johnson (So., Belgrade, Minn.) doubled home two runs in the
first inning of the first game, and Concordia never trailed after that
point in the two-game series, sweeping Macalester in St. Paul.
Concordia won the first game 3-1 and then used an 11-hit outburst to claim the second game 7-1. The Cobbers up their conference record to 6-2, 9-3 overall. For Macalester, the two losses drop their MIAC record to 1-9 and overall they are 1-21-1.
Johnson's first inning heroics came with the bases loaded and two outs in the opening frame. She drove the first pitch she faced into the left center gap for a double which plated Erin Gunderson (Jr., Princeton, Minn.) and Amanda Schindeldecker (Jr., Menahga, Minn.) with the second and third runs of the inning. Gunderson proceeded to make those runs hold up as she pitched seven innings, giving up one earned run and only three hits for her third win of the season. Johnson went on to tear up Scot pitching as she went 2-for-3 for the game and 4-for-6 with four RBI's for the series.
In the second game Schindeldecker and senior Heather Stohs (Perham, Minn.) combined for seven of the eleven Cobber hits to help Concordia to the 7-1 win. Schindeldecker was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. Stohs added a 3-for-4 perfomance of her own as she had three RBI's. Christine Moen (Sr., Glenwood, Minn.) pitched a complete game earning her team-leading fourth win. She gave up only the one earned run and held the Scots to four hits while striking out four.
Concordia will travel to Bethel to take on the Royals on Saturday, April
21st at 1:00 and then stay in the Twin Cities to play St. Kate's on Sunday,
April 22nd at noon.
