2/1 Concordia Gets Hot, Outscores
St. Olaf 89-84.
Concordia tied a MIAC season-high point total and outscored St. Olaf
89-84. Mike Syverson (Jr., Twin Valley, MN) came up with a career-high
21 points, and led the Cobbers to a much needed victory. Five Concordia
players scored in double figures as the Cobbers picked up their seventh
league victory of the year, and stayed two games in front of seventh place
Macalester for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Concordia shook off their recent scoring woes in the first half, and came out strong at the beginning of the game. The Cobbers built an early lead but St. Olaf would not let Concordia run away with the game, and closed to within one at halftime 42-41.
The second half was played at the same frenetic offensive pace as the first half as the two teams combined for 90 points in the final period. Concordia shot 69% from the field in the second half, while the Oles were an even 50% on 16-for 32 shooting from the field. Concordia finally pulled away late in the game when the Cobbers received scoring from Syverson and Jeff Ubben (Jr., Moorhead, MN). Ubben finished the game with 17 points. The three other players that finished in double figures were - Joe Snowden (Sr., St. Paul, MN) with 15, Trent Hagen (So., Pelican Rapids, MN) with 13 and Kermit Cooper (Sr., Freeport, BAH) with 10.
Concordia moves to 7-6 in the MIAC and 10-7 overall, while St. Olaf
slides to 3-11 and 5-13. The Cobbers host Carleton on Saturday at 3:00.
