Cobbers Start Slow, Lose in Four
Games to Bethel.
Concordia lost the first two games of the match and never recovered,
losing 3-1 (30-22, 30-25, 24-30, 32-30) to league-leading Bethel. It was
the Cobbers' third loss in their last four matches. Bethel is now 5-0 in
the MIAC, while Concordia drops to 2-3 after starting the season 2-0.
Concordia (13-5-0) had three players with more than 12 kills on the match, but was unable to stop Jill Thorvig of Bethel, who finished with a match-high 26 kills. Amy Fitzner led the Cobbers with 16 kills. Kris Sather finished with 15 and Jackie Barten chipped in 12. Jessica Walden had 49 assists for Concordia. Bethel's Katie Snyder was the match leader in assists as she helped the Royal attack with 54 assists.
The Cobbers struggled in the pivotal game one, committing 12 errors while only putting down 11 kills. For the match, Concordia managed to only successfully attack at a .130 pace. Bethel (12-2-0) hit a consistent .201 for the four-game match.
The Cobbers will have a week off before resuming play on Tuesday, October 8th at 7:00pm at Macalester. Concordia will play their next three matches on the road.
