Cobbers End Marathon Week With Extra-Inning Sweep.

(MOORHEAD)-- Concordia swept St. Catherine 5-0 and 9-8 to finish off
a period of playing five doubleheaders in six days. The Cobbers went 5-5
for the week and improved to 5-7 in the MIAC.
In a fitting ending to the marathon week, Concordia staved off last-out defeat on two separate occasions in the second game and rallied to beat St. Catherine (1-9-0 MIAC, 3-16-0) 9-8 in 9 innings. Stacie Johnson (Sr., Belgrade, Minn./BBE HS) hit a two-out home run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6, and then erased a 8-6 deficit in the bottom of the eight inning when Jamie Bang (Fr., Hermantown, Minn/Hermantown HS) hit a two-out triple to score Jolene Rebertus (So., Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska HS). The Cobbers won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning when Megan Luther (Park Rapids, Min/Park Rapids Area HS) hit a two-out, walkoff single that plated Jill Flatau (Sr., Perham, Minn./Perham HS) with the game-winning run. Johnson was 3-for-3 in the game with a double and the game-tying home run. Flatau went 2-for-5 and scored two runs.
To make the game even more surreal, Concordia (5-7 MIAC, 9-14-0) committed eight errors in the game and still was able to come away with the win. Gretta Stritesky (Ogilvie, Minn./Ogilvie HS) came on in relief of starting pitcher Steph Boesche (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) to pick up her second win of the day and fourth of the season.
Concordia used a different script in the first game as Stritesky pitched a complete-game, 2-hit shutout to propel Concordia to the victory. It was Stritesky's third win of the season and first collegiate shutout. The Cobbers did the majority of the damage in the third inning when they scored three runs on a single hit but were aided by three Wildcat errors.
Over the course of the five doubleheaders, the Cobbers were lead by Flatau and Bang. Flatau went 16-for-32 over the course of the 10 games. She scored 10 runs, had 6 RBI's and collected 8 extra-base hits. She carted an . 875 slugging percentage and had six multiple-hit games. Bang had a slightly lower average at .457 but had a higher on-base average (.567). She also stole four bases and scored eight runs.
Concordia will host Gustavus on Wednesday, April 16 at 4:00pm and then
play in the NDSU tournament on Friday and Saturday, April 18-19.
