(Winona, Minn.)--- Concordia-Moorhead sophomore guard Jamie Visness (Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to break the nine-year old, NCAA Women's All-Division consecutive free throw record of 66. Visness helped Concordia to a key, 66-65 win over St. Mary's (Minn.) by finishing with nine points and two assists. She has currently made 68 straight free throws.
The old mark was held by Ginny Doyle of Richmond University, an NCAA Division I institution, who made her final six free throws of the 1990-91 season, and then her first 60 of the 1991-92 season.
Visness, who plays for the NCAA Division III Cobbers, broke the Division III record held by Valerie Kepner of Baldwin-Wallace yesterday, when she went 4-for-4 against Carleton.
Visness made her final 12 free throws last season, and is currently 56-for-56 during the 2002-03 season. The streak, which started on January 28, 2002 against St. Catherine, spans the course of 29 games. She has made free throws in 21 of those 29 games, and has played a total of 646 minutes during the streak. Concordia is 15-14 during the 29 games involved in the streak.
Visness tied Doyle's record midway through the first half. Her record-breaking free throw came with 13:05 left in the game, and was one of only a handful of attempts that have hit the rim. Her second attempt went cleanly through the basket to further the record to 68.
Concordia has three games remaining in the regular-season. She will
have the chance to extend the record on Wednesday, February 12 at 5:30pm
when the Cobbers play at the College of St. Catherine.
