(Winona, Minn.)-- Concordia fell
off the pace in the final day of competition at the MIAC Championships
and placed fourth for the two-day event. Katie Taylor (Sr., Owatonna,
Minn/Owatonna HS) and
Katy Stevens (Jr., Colstrip, Mont./Colstrip
HS) placed in the top 10 in the individual competition to earn All-MIAC
honors. Taylor fired a 79 on the final day to come away with second place
at the championship meet. She finished only one stroke off the top of the
leaderboard. Taylor finished with a 163 (84-79) while medalist Katie Glorvigen
of St. Thomas shot a 162 (85-77) to claim the individual title. The second
place finish marks the highest finish by Taylor at the MIAC Championship
Meet. It is also the third straight year that Taylor has earned all-conference
honors.
Stevens pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the tournament by shooting a 174 (82-92) to finish in a tie for tenth place and come away with all-conference honors for the first time in her career. She was tied for second place going into the final round and hung on to place in the top ten. It is her second top ten finish of the season. Last year Stevens finished 26 shots behind the top ten golfers in the 27-hole event that was shortened due to poor weather conditions.
As a team, the Cobbers shot a 711 (351- 360) which was 18 strokes behind third place Gustavus and 46 behind team champion St. Thomas. The Tommies have now won three straight MIAC team titles.
Rounding out the top four for Concordia
were Laura Henry (Fr., Hugo, Minn./Forest Lake HS) who finished
with a 184 (90-94) and Jenny Nystrom (Hartford, S.Dak./West Central
HS) who fired a pair of 95's to finish at 190.
