Women's Basketball Goes Inside to Beat Bethel 70-54; Wins Ninth Straight.
(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Concordia found success from underneath the basket and outlasted a pesky Bethel Royal team 70-54. The Cobbers outscored the Royals 52-18 from inside the "paint" area, and came away with their ninth straight victory. The nine-game winning streak is the longest since the 1992-93 season when the Cobbers won 10 straight. Concordia has now won 12 of their past 13 games.

Mandy Pearson drove her way to 16 points and 12 assists in the game. She led the Cobbers in scoring and her 12 assists is a season-high. With the win, Concordia climbs to 13-3 in conference play and 15-4 overall. The Cobbers stay tied for third place with Gustavus who downed Hamline 91-49. The much-improved Bethel team slides to 6-10 in the MIAC and 8-11 overall.(More)

Women's Hockey Player Lindsay Czarnecki Named MIAC Player of the Week.
Concordia junior forward Lindsay Czarnecki was named MIAC Player of the Week. She scored four goals and collected one assist in Concordia's weekend sweep at Saint Benedict.

The two victories snapped a four-game losing streak and jumped the Cobbers into a tie for sixth place in the MIAC.(More)
 

Women's Basketball Player Annie Keeley Named MIAC Co-Player of the Week. Concordia first-year guard Annie Keeley was named the MIAC Co-Player of the Week. Keeley averaged 17.5, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists and shot 70.0% from 3-point range in Concordia's two wins this past week.  Her biggest contribution came in the Cobbers' 77-76 overtime win over nationally-ranked Saint Benedict when she hit the game-winning 3-point basket with under one minute left to play in overtime. With the two victories, the Cobbers move into a tie for third place in the MIAC and extend their winning streak to eight games - the team's longest since the 2000-01 season.(More)

Women's Hockey Continues to Find Offense, Storms Blazers 8-5.
(St. Cloud, Minn.)-- Concordia exploded for five goals in the third period and blasted St. Ben's 8-5 to sweep the Blazers in a pivotal two-game series. The eight goals is the largest offensive output of the season and is the most goals scored by the Cobbers since February 22 of last year when Concordia battered Bethel 10-2.

The Cobbers outshot St. Ben's 50-25 for the game, marking the first time this season that Concordia has reached the 50-shot plateau. It is also the most shots on goal by Concordia since November 22, 2002 when the Cobbers peppered Hamline for 51 shots.

With the win, Concordia improves to 4-6-0 in the MIAC and 5-7-0 overall. The four points from the series brings the Cobbers into a tie for sixth place in the conference with Augsburg. Concordia is only four points behind the three-team pack tied for third place. St. Ben's loses for the fourth straight game and falls to 2-7-1 in league play and 4-9-1 overall.(More)

Women's Basketball Keeps Rolling, Downs Macalester 60-39. (St. Paul, Minn.)-- Concordia's defense blanketed the Macalester offense, and Concordia rolled to their eighth straight win, downing the Scots 60-39. The 39 points allowed is a season-best for the Cobbers, and marks the fourth time that Concordia has held their opponents to under 50 points in a game. The Cobbers allowed just 10 first half points, a school record since the sports information department started keeping track of half scores in 1990. The Cobbers have now won 11 of their last 12 games and improve to 12-3 in the MIAC and 14-4 overall. The eight straight victories is the longest winning streak since the 2000-01 season when they also had an eight-game string. The next longest winning streak by a Cobber women's team is 10 games by the 1992-93 squad.(More)

Men's Basketball Falters Down the Stretch, Fall to Macalester 86-75.
(St. Paul, Minn.)-- Concordia was outscored 17-7 in the final 5:13 and lost 86-75 to Macalester in St. Paul. Josh Downey hit a 3-point basket at the 5:23 mark to cut the Macalester lead to one at 69-68, and the rest of the way was all Macalester, as they won for the seventh straight time. 

The Cobbers fall for the second time in three games and slide into a tie for fourth place in the MIAC. Concordia is now 9-5 league play and 12-6 overall. The Cobbers are tied with Bethel, who is also 9-5, for the fourth spot in the conference with six games left to play in the regular season. Concordia will host the Royals on Monday night. The Scots are currently in second place in the league with an 11-2 mark. Like the Cobbers, Macalester is now 12-6 overall.(More)
 

Women's Hockey Continues Road Dominance, Beats St. Ben's 5-3. (St. Cloud, Minn.)-- Concordia scored two unanswered goals in the third period to break a 3-3 deadlock and down St. Ben's 5-3. The win improves the Cobbers' record on the road to 4-1. They also break a four-game losing skid and improve to 3-6-0 in the MIAC and 4-7-0 overall. With the win, Concordia passes the Blazers in the conference standings. The Cobbers spotted St. Ben's the first two goals of the game, allowing first period goals at the 4:29 mark and then again at 9:17. Concordia responded quickly when Brandie Dunn scored third goal of the year at 10:42. The Cobbers seized the momentum heading into the first intermission after being outshot 7-5 in the opening period.(More)

Men's Track and Field is Full of Surprises at Cobber Dual Meet.
(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Concordia had two athletes win individual events and finished fourth at the Cobber Dual Meet. The Cobbers finished the event with a final record of 1-4. Jamestown College won the event with a 4-0 record and Bemidji State was second with a final mark of 3-1.

The biggest surprise of the meet for Concordia came in the high jump where sophomore transfer Luke Draxten won the event with a jump of 6-4. It was Draxten's first indoor track meet in three years and he has only recently started to train for the event. Joining Draxten as Concordia's only other event winner was Kyle Halliday who captured the 600-meter run in a time of 1:24.63. It is a personal best time for Halliday and rates in the top eight times ever run by a Concordia athlete in the event.(Complete Results) 
 

Women's Track and Field Captures Cobber Dual Meet Crown. (Moorhead, Minn.)-- Concordia sophomore Angie Pfeiffer demolished the competition in all three of her individual events, the Cobbers won two other individual events and ran away with the overall team victory at the annual Cobber Dual Meet. Concordia won all six dual meets to post a perfect 6-0 record and win the meet for the first time since the 2000-01 season when the team went on to finish second at the MIAC Indoor Championship Meet. Jamestown finished second at the meet with a final record of 5-1. Concordia MIAC rival St. Ben's was third with a final mark of 4-2. The Cobbers beat the Blazers by 20 points in their individual meet. (Complete Results)

Wrestling Finishes Tenth at Elmhurst Invitational.
(Elmhurst, Ill.)-- Concordia placed three wrestlers in the top six of their individual weight classes and finished 10th at the Elmhurst Invitational. Augustana was the overall winner of the 15-team meet with a final team total of 149.0 points. MIAC rival St. John's placed fourth with 89.0 points.

Lee Rahrlien, Ed Oehlers and Dain Kalkbrenner each placed sixth in their weight classes. Rahrlien won his first two matches in the 157-pound weight class before falling 3-2 in the semifinals to Jacob Malone of St. John's. Rahrlien lost his final two matches to claim sixth place. He finished the tournament with a 2-3 record. Rahrlien finishes the month of January with an 8-5 record as he prepares for the NCAA Division III Central Region Meet.(Complete Results)
