The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Cobbers and drops their MIAC record to 4-3. Concordia is now 6-4 overall. The Knights remain perfect, climbing to 7-0 in the MIAC and 10-0 overall.
THE PLAYER
THE STAT

THE SKINNY
Cobbers committed 26 turnovers in falling to undefeated, and nationally-ranked, Carleton.

Debbie Slack (Sr., Evansville, Minn./Evansville HS) broke out of her recent rebounding slump as she recorded her first double-double of the season by grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds and scoring 10 points. Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) was the high point player as she totaled 16 points. Beth Drager (Sr., Wood Lake, Minn./Lakeview HS), playing in foul trouble the entire game, added 10 points, and Karie Visness (So., Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) scored 10 as she continues to give Concordia a solid scoring presence from off the bench.

Carleton's Megan Vig led all players with 25 points and collected a team-high nine rebounds. Linnea Engel was 8-for-9 from the free throw line and chipped in 18 points in the winning effort.

Concordia, not about to back down from the 17th-ranked Knights, sprinted to a 13-5 lead before Carleton cut the deficit to two points at 13-11. Carleton grabbed their first lead of the game at 11:59 when Vig completed a traditional 3-point play by converting on the free throw. The teams traded baskets before Carleton went on a 10-4 run to take a 30-23 lead. The Cobbers scored the final five points of the period to cut the halftime margin to two points at 30-28.

The decisive stretch of the game came at the start of the second half when Carleton outscored Concordia 8-1 in the first four minutes. The Cobbers did not score a field goal until the 15:51 mark when Slack put back a rebound off of a Jamie Visness (Jr., Hallock, Minn./Kittson Central HS) missed 3-point attempt. The Knights responded with seven consecutive points, capped by a Vig three-pointer, to lead 46-34. Carleton pushed the lead to as many as 16 at 60-44 with 7:17 left before the Cobbers used an 11-2 to get within seven, 62-55, with 1:41 remaining. The Knights converted 9-of-10 free throws down the stretch to seal their seventh consecutive win over Concordia.

The Cobbers shot 44.0%(22-for-50) from the field and held Carleton to only 36.9%(24-for-65). Concordia hurt their chances for the upset by committing 26 turnovers. Carleton turned those 26 turnovers into a 25-17 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Cobbers outrebounded the Knights 38-36, marking the first time in four games against Carleton that they have held the advantage on the boards.

Concordia will play at St. Kate's on Saturday, January 10 at 1:00pm. The game can be heard live on KVOX 1280AM in the Fargo-Moorhead area and worldwide over the internet at www.gocobbers.com. The next home game for Concordia is on Wednesday, January 14 when they host Hamline at 7:30pm.

1/05 Cobbers Snap 10-Year Losing Skid to St. Thomas, Win 78-67.

(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Concordia snapped a 10-year losing skid to St. Thomas by claiming a decisive 78-67 win in Moorhead. The last time the Cobbers beat the Tommies was on January 5, 1994, 10 years to the day, a streak that encompassed 20 games.

The victory is the third consecutive win for Concordia and improves their MIAC record to 4-2. The Cobbers are now 5-3 overall. St. Thomas slides to 3-3 in conference play and 4-4 overall.

Concordia never trailed in the game as they built an early 11-2 lead and never looked back. Mandy Pearson (Jr., Watkins, Minn./Eden Valley-Watkins HS) led the way for the Cobbers as she poured in a game-high 25 points and seven assists. Beth Drager (Sr., Wood Lake, Minn./Lakeview HS), injury-free for the first time since the beginning of the season, scored 13 points in the first half and finished the game with 17 points. From her guard position, Anne Keeley (Fr., Grafton, N.Dak./Grafton HS) led all players with 10 rebounds. Katie Wieberg had 16 points to lead St. Thomas in scoring.

After jumping to the early nine-point lead, Concordia pushed the lead to as many as 11 points in the first 20 minutes of the game. Each time the Cobbers threatened to run away with the game, St. Thomas responded by chipping away at the lead. The Tommies got at close as four points three different times during the half but could never get come all the way back.

In the second half, Concordia saw their lead dwindle to a single basket, but a clutch 3-point basket by Jamie Visness at the 17:57 mark stopped the Tommies momentum and helped the Cobbers gain control of the game. From that point on, Concordia never led by less than six points and finished with an 11-point, 78-67 victory.

The Cobbers shot a solid 49.2%(30-for-61) from the floor and outrebounded St. Thomas 40-33. Concordia also outscored the Tommies 38-24 in points scored from inside the lane. The Tommies shot 34.6% (9-for-26) from the field in the second half and 39.3%(22-for-56) for the game.

Concordia will play at Carleton on Wednesday, January 7 at 5:30pm, and then take on St. Kate's on Saturday, January 9 at 1:00pm in St. Paul. Both games can be heard live on KVOX 1280AM in the Fargo-Moorhead area and worldwide over the internet at www.gocobbers.com
