Jr. Long Beach, Cali. Had a goal and two assists in the Cobbers' 4-3 loss at Lake Forest (IL). |
(Lake Forest, IL)-- A costly second period doomed Concordia to a 4-3 loss to Lake Forest (IL). The Cobbers gave up all four goals in the second frame and lost for the third time in four games.
Concordia (0-2, 1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal by Lindsay Czarnecki (Jr., Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly HS). It was Czarnecki's team-leading, fourth goal of the season. She has also scored in three of the Cobbers' first four games.
Lake Forest (2-7-1) sealed the game during a 10-minute span in the decisive middle period. The Foresters tied the game at the 3:02 mark and then followed that tally with goals at 6:46, 7:38 and 13:17. Mel Guillermo scored the first and fourth goals of the quartet to lead Lake Forest to the win.
Concordia rallied for two goals in the third period, but were unable to come away with the critical goal to tie the game. Kali Palmer (So., North Richland Hills, Tex., Birdville HS) scored her first goal of the season at 3:39 to cut the margin to 4-2, and then Bridgette Richter (Jr., Long Beach, Cali./Los Alamitos HS) pulled the Cobbers to within one at 18:31. The final 1:29 of the game turned into a battle as five penalties were called, three on the Cobbers.
All totaled, the team combined for 25 penalties and 50 penalty minutes. Unlike Saturday's game, the Cobbers were able to outshoot the Foresters. Concordia held a 37-27 edge in shots in the game and a 14-7 margin in the third period.
Jenna Johnson (So., Wadena, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek HS) started the game for the Cobbers and made 16 saves in 40 minutes of action. Jamie Savage (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Rosemount HS) entered the game in the third period and stopped all seven shots that Lake Forest was able to muster. Theresa Taylor made 34 saves in picking up her second win of the season for the Foresters.
Concordia returns to MIAC action next weekend
when they play at Hamline on Friday, December 5 at 7:00pm and Saturday,
December 6 at 2:00pm.
