Splichal
Soars; Pfeiffer Flies; Concordia Captures Fourth at Cobber Invitational.
(Moorhead, Minn.)-- Renee Splichal
(Sr., Garrison, N.Dak.) soared over a school milestone, Angie Pfeiffer
(Colman, S.Dak./Colman-Egan HS) flew to a first place finish and Concordia
captured fourth place in the Cobber Invitational. The Cobbers finished
with a final total of 87.0 points. Concordia finished ahead of cross-town
rival MSU-Moorhead and several NCAA Division II schools. The University
of Mary (N.Dak.) won the team event with a final total of 177.0 points.
Splichal became the first female at Concordia to break the 11-foot barrier in the pole vault. The senior cleared the bar at 11-1 and finished second in the event. Her mark of 11-1 provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division III national meet. She also finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 33-8 3/4. Pfeiffer continued to sprint her way past the competition, as she won the 200 meters in a time of 26.14. That mark is a season-best for Pfeiffer and helped her beat out a field that was filled with NCAA Division II scholarship athletes.
The only other individual event winner for the Cobbers was the 4X400-meter relay team. The squad of Alissa Bilden (Fr., Miles, City, Mont./Custer County HS), Britt Berger (Fr., Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS), Kelly Olson (Fr., Minot, N.Dak./Minot Ryan HS) and Pfeiffer ran a time of 4:07.19 to clip the University of Mary by a half of a second, marking the first time in school history that the Cobbers have beaten the Maruaders in a relay. The winning time is the ninth fastest performance in school history.
A trio of Cobbers garnered third place finishes. Lisa Owen ran a 4:59.36 in the 1500 meters, Jen Bremser put up a time of 21:06.26 in the 5000 meters and Amy Ravenhorst (Fr., Hollandale, Minn./Albert Lea HS) clocked a 1:41.17 in the 600 meters. For Ravenhorst, it is a team season-best time and rates as the sixth fastest time in school history.
Other notable Cobber performances included
Berger, who backed up her win as part of the 400-meter relay team, with
a sixth place showing in the 800 meters. Her time of 2:25.20 is a team
season-best. Julie Miller (Jr., Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) finished
in fifth place in the 1000 meters in a time of 3:21.53, and Jen St.
John (Jr., Billings, Mont./Billings West HS) ran a 5:08.11 to capture
sixth place in the 1500 meters.
