St. John's Rallies to Win Team Title; Bethel Journeyman Captures Individual Crown. 
COON RAPIDS-- St. John's fired a 302 on the final day of the MIAC Men's Golf Championship Meet to overtake Gustavus and claim their fourth title in the past six years.

The Johnnies finished with a final team total of 608 (306-302) to better St. Thomas by five strokes (305-308--613) and last year's champion Gustavus by six shots (304-310--614). 

Unheralded Bethel senior Tim Brovold shot a 147 (74-73) to grab the individual championship crown. It is the first time since 1999 that a golfer from other than St. John's, Gustavus or St. Thomas has walked away with medalist honors.

The Johnnies entered the final day of competition in third placed trailing the Gusties by two shots and St. Thomas by a single stroke. They were able to overtake both teams on the strength of four players that posted scores under 78. Gustavus, the defending conference champions struggled in day two. They shot a 310 and finished in third place. St. Thomas was able to hold off the Gusties and finish second by firing a 308. 

Bethel, led by the solid play of Brovold placed fourth (311-315--326). That is their highest finish ever in an MIAC Championship Meet. Augsburg rounded out the top five by finishing one stroke back at 327 (316-311).

St. John's junior golfer Chad Michelson (Marshall, Minn.) finished second, three shots back of Brovold, at 150 (76-74). He was one of two Johnnie golfers that claimed All-Conference honors. Joining Michelson was Clinton Dammen (Fr., Glencoe, Minn./Glencoe-Silver Lake HS) who ended in a tie for eighth place at 153 (77-76).

Only St. Thomas placed more than two players in the top ten of the meet, which earns All-Conference honors. The Tommies were led by the trio of Brett Egge (Sr., Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS), Luke Juhl (Sr., New London, Minn./Willmar HS) and Dan Moline (Duluth, Minn./Marshall HS). Egge finished in a tie for third at 151 (76-75), while Juhl and Moline ended in a tie for eighth place. 

Like St. John's, Gustavus placed two golfers on the All-Conference list. Eric Tone (So., Willmar, Minn.) finished tied for third (77-74--151) and John Hagedorn (Jr.,  Blue Earth, Minn.) was among the group of four players that tied for eighth (74-79--153). 

The rest of the top ten was completed by golfers from teams that placed only a single player on the All-Conference honor roll. Jesse Polk of St. Mary's tied for third at 151 (76-75). Drew Dvorak (Fr., Litchfield, Minn.) and Brian Delaitsch (So., Owatonna, Minn.) tied for sixth at 152. Dvorak fired identical 76's, and Delaitsch finished with a 77 after posting a 75 in the first round.
