Cobbers Make Larson a
Winner in Coaching Debut!
(COLLEGEVILLE)-- A pair
of newcomers stole the show for the Cobbers as they opened their 2004 with
a 2-0 win over Northland College (Wisc.).
Freshman forward Matt
Klein (Fergus Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls HS) made sure that first-year
head coach Joe Larson didn't have to wait very long to post his
first collegiate victory of his coaching career. Klein scored both goals
for the Cobbers, one in the first half (27:21) and the second mid way through
the final period (69:53).
The Concordia defense stymied
the overmatched Lumberjacks all game long. Led by senior captain Rick
Tungseth (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead HS), the Cobbers did not allow a
single shot on goal, and Northland was only able to register a single shot
all game.
Nik Pickett (Fergus
Falls, Minn./Fergus Falls HS) recorded a shutout in his first game in goal
for Concordia. The junior transfer had to sit out last season because of
academic reasons.
Concordia outshot Northland
28-1 in the game and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Cobber sophomore
forward Constant Maninga (Bangui, RCA, Oak Grove HS) had nine shots
to lead all players.
Concordia will play Luther
College (Iowa) in the final game of the St. John's Tournament tomorrow
afternoon at 1:00pm.
