Invitational Meet Recap
Cobbers
Have Promising Season Start at SJU Invitational!!
(COLLEGEVILLE)-- The 2004
Cobber men's cross country team had two provens and a whole lot of unknowns
coming into the season. In the opening meet at St. John's, the provens
continued to challenge for the top spots in the meet and the unknowns quickly
became known.
Seniors Nick Myran
(Kenyon, Minn./Kenyon-Wanamingo HS) and Ben Nylander (Lisbon, N.D./Lisbon
HS) both finished in the top fifteen of the meet and both ran the opening
race injury-free. The Cobbers then received solid performances from their
newcomers to help the team finish third in the team standings. Concordia
finished the meet with 116 points. St. John's won the invitational with
a low score of 19 points.
Myran started his senior
season by finishing sixth and has now set the stage for a storied last
year in maroon and gold. Last year he earned all-region and all-conference
honors in cross country and narrowly missed earning All-American honors
at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Meet. His final time over
the 8,000 meter course was 27:11, less than 50 seconds behind the overall
winner.
Nylander finished 16th in
a time of 28:02. He will be benefited this season by a year of training.
Last year he was hampered by an injury all season long.
The next wave of Cobber runners
featured sophomore Dan Bye (Mankato, Minn./Mankato Loyola HS) and
freshmen Scott Dinsen (Hastings, Minn./Hastings) and Matt Putratz
(Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa). Bye, solidly locked in as the team's
number three runner, ran 30:21, while Dinsen finished in 31:06 and Putratz
completed the course in 31:25.
The Cobbers will travel to
Rapid City, S.D. to participate in the South Dakota Tech Invite on Saturday,
September 11 at 11:00am at Robbinsdale Park.
