Cobbers Show Inexperience, Slide to Ninth at Cobber Open. 
(DETROIT LAKES)--Concordia had five players playing in their first collegiate golf tournament and it showed, as the Cobbers struggled to post low scores and slid all the way to ninth place at the Cobber Open held at Wildflower Golf Club in Detroit Lakes, Minn. 

The University of North Dakota claimed the team title in a closely contested championship. The Fighting Sioux tied with St. Ben's at 328 but won the crown on the strength of the score of their fifth golfer. The top four teams in the tournament were only separated by a mere four strokes. Jennifer Orcutt from UM-Crookston walked away with medalist honors. The senior shot a four over par 76 and claimed the top spot by three shots.

With the graduation of All-American golfer Katie Taylor ('04, Owatonna, Minn.), Cobber senior Katy Stevens (Colstrip, Mont./Colstrip HS) assumed the role of top returning golfer. Stevens earned MIAC All-Conference honors last season by coming out of no where to finish in a tie for tenth place at the tournament championship meet. Competing in her first meet since that event, Stevens fired an 86 and finished well down the leaderboard. The only other Concordia golfer with experience form last year is Christie Brink (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS). Brink shot a 90 in her first round of the 2004 season. 

The Cobber kiddie crew was led by Erin Douglass, who fired a 94 as the five youngsters were separated by only four strokes. Lindsay Morasch (Jr., Sleepy Eye, Minn./Sleepy Eye HS) shot a 95 to round out the top four scoring team members. 

Concordia will turn around and play host over the weekend as they compete in the Concordia Invitational on saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12. The tournament will be held also be held at Wildflower and the field will boast some of the top women's golf squads from around the area. Tee times start at noon on saturday and 9:00am on Sunday.
