Schumacher and Romsa Named
to the All-Midwest Region Team!
The pair of Cobbers helped Concordia reach the MIAC playoffs for the third consecutive season and the fourth time in the six-year history of the event. The Cobbers posted a 12-8 record in conference play, marking the seventh straight season that the Cobbers have won at least 10 MIAC games in a season. It is also the 17th time in the past 18 years that Concordia has posted at least a .500 record in conference play. Schumacher finishes out his junior year at Concordia with one more postseason award. Earlier in the month, he earned all-conference honors for the first time in his career. The baseball awards follow his MIAC Most Valuable Player trophy that he won in football in the fall. He was also named to the Football Gazette All-Region Football Team. He finished the year second on the team in hitting in overall games with a .361 average and third in conference games with a .382 average. He tied for the team lead in home runs with nine, falling two short of the school record for most home runs in a season. He also led the team in RBIs (41) and slugging percentage (.654). He led the MIAC (conference games) in RBIs (30) and tied for the lead in home runs (6). He also finished second in total bases (47), tied for third in doubles (6) and fourth in slugging percentage (.758). Romsa finished the year as the team's winningest pitcher. His seven wins in the season placed him in third place in the MIAC. Overall, he finished 7-2 on the season and compiled 13 wins over the past two seasons. He was the Cobbers’ winningest pitcher over the past two seasons. He led the Cobbers in innings pitched (69.2), wins (7), games started (11) and complete games (8) in 2005 and finished second on the team in ERA (3.10). He finished the regular season by pitching a complete game in each of his last seven starts. Romsa saved his best outing
for last as he threw a complete-game two-hitter against St. Olaf in the
playoffs. He took a perfect game into the eighth inning against the Oles
and became only the second Cobber to earn a victory in the conference tournament
in program history.
