a 12-8 record in conference play, marking the seventh straight season that
the Cobbers have won at least 10 MIAC games in a season. It is also the

5 vs. Concordia 2 |
ST. CLOUD-- Concordia started
fast, settled for a split and then received an early Christmas present
from St. John's as the Cobbers split with Augsburg to clinch their third
straight MIAC playoff berth. It will also be the fourth conference tournament
appearance in the six-year history of the event. Only Concordia, St. Olaf
and St. Thomas have appeared in at least four MIAC playoff tournaments.
Concordia (17-19 overall,
12-8 MIAC) won the first game 7-1, while Augsburg (22-16 overall, 12-8
MIAC) took the second game 5-2. After a victory by St. John’s in the first
game of its regular-season-ending doubleheader against Gustavus on Monday,
the Auggies and Cobbers clinched the final two spots in the four-team MIAC

from behind in the first game to win in dramatic fashion in the bottom
of the seventh inning 5-4 over Bethel, but couldn't carry the momentum
over to the series finale and lost 11-4.
In the end, it wasn't the
sweep they were looking for, but it moves the Cobbers one step closer to
the MIAC playoffs with only one series remaining. Concordia is now 11-7
in the conference and 16-18 overall. Bethel finishes their season by holding
steady at .500. The Royals end with a 10-10 league mark and an 18-18 overall
record.(More)

play with a lead as they swept St. Mary's 9-3 and 6-4 in a pair of critical
games for the Cobbers.
The two victories keeps Concordia
bunched up with a group of four teams for the three remaining conference
playoff spots. The Cobbers are now 10-6 in league play and tied for third
place in the MIAC with Augsburg. Concordia is only one game behind second-place
St. Olaf and one game ahead of fifth-place Gustavus.(More) |

FARGO, N.D.-- They say that
revenge is a dish best served cold. On Monday, North Dakota State served
up a huge dish of revenge on a cold platter. In a game played with the
temperatures hovering around 40 degrees, the Bison battered Concordia pitching
for 17 runs and 20 hits, and NDSU cruised to a 17-3 victory in a game played
at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.
The win avenges a 12-8 loss
at the hands of the Cobbers last season, the only loss that the Bison had
against non-NCAA Division I, II or top-flight NAIA schools in all of 2004.(More)
Blake Trenbeath
Named MIAC Pitcher of the Week!
Concordia junior pitcher
Blake
Trenbeath (Cavalier, N.D.) was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week
for his stellar performance against St. Olaf on Saturday. Trenbeath becomes
the second Cobber pitcher to win the award this season and third player
overall to be honored with the weekly award.
Trenbeath was the winning
pitcher in Concordia's critical victory over second-place St. Olaf on Saturday.
He pitched 5.1 innings and only allowed one earned run in his only outing
of the week, as the Cobbers beat the Oles 4-1 in the second game of the
doubleheader to gain a split in the series and stay in the thick of the
MIAC playoff race. Trenbeath scattered seven hits and only allowed one
walk to pick up his second win in seven days. His most impressive statistic
was the fact that he held the potent Ole offense to just one hit in seven
at-bats (.143) with runners on base. In his last two outings Trenbeath
is now 2-0 and has only allowed two earned runs in 12.1 innings of work.
The award marks the 32nd
time during the 2004-05 MIAC athletic season that a Concordia athlete has
won Player/Athlete of the Week honors.

depending on the outcome of the other games in the conference. With the

gain a split of the regular-season for the first time in five seasons.
Entering the series on Saturday,
Concordia had swept St. John's in four consecutive regular-season doubleheaders.
With the split, the Cobbers
are now 4-4 in the MIAC and 9-14-0 overall. The Johnnies battle to 6-4
in the league and 13-9-0 overall.(More)

MOORHEAD-- With a stiff
wind blowing from right to left field, Concordia and Valley City State
traded blowout victories in a non-conference, midweek scoring fest in Moorhead.
The Cobbers bolted out of
the starting gate for nine runs in the first two innings of game one and
raced to a 13-1 victory in the opener. The Vikings then turned the tables
by scoring multiple runs in three of the seven innings in the second game
and eased their way to a 9-3 win.
The split puts Concordia's
overall record at 8-13-0. The Cobbers now have only one remaining non-conference
game on the schedule. They will face NDSU on May 2 to complete their 14-game
slate away from MIAC competition. Valley City, who has now split their
last four series, moves to 12-15 on the year.(More) |

Kevin Engebretson Named
MIAC Pitcher of the Week!
Concordia sophomore pitcher
Kevin
Engebretson (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named the MIAC
Pitcher of the Week as announced by the MIAC league office. It is the first
time that Engebretson has received the honor, and he becomes the second
consecutive Cobber player to earn Player of the Week honors. Last week,
teammate Chris Klabo was named the MIAC Hitter/Fielder of the Week.
The award marks the 29th
time in 2004-05 that a Concordia athlete has won MIAC Player of the Week
honors. That is the most in one single academic calendar year for Concordia
since the league started to hand out Player of the Week awards in all team
sports starting in 2000.
Engebretson pitched a complete-game
against Hamline on Wednesday to pick up his first collegiate win in his
only appearance of the week. Engebretson masterfully mixed in his off-speed
pitches to keep the Hamline hitters off balance and pick up the win. He
did not allow an earned run, allowed only five hits and struck out six.
He also did not walk a batter in the game. Other than the lone run in the
fourth, he did not allow a runner to reach third base, and finished the
game by retiring seven of the final eight hitters.

Concordia sophomore outfielder
Chris
Klabo (Brainerd, Minn.) was named the MIAC Fielder of the Week for
his six-hit performance against defending MIAC champion St. Thomas on Saturday.
Klabo hit .750 on the week
for the Cobbers. He went 6-for-8 in Concordia’s doubleheader loss at St.
Thomas and did not make an error in the Cobbers' first two games of the
MIAC season.
In the first game, he was
4-for-4, scored a run and had one RBI as Concordia dropped a 5-3 decision.
In the second game he went 2-for-4 and scored a run and helped the Cobbers
erase a 5-1 deficit in the top half of the seventh inning.
On the season, he is leading
Concordia with a .458 average. He currently has an 11-game hitting streak
and has hit safely in 12 of the team's first 13 games. Klabo also leads
