Cobbers Feel the Pain
of Payback, Lose 17-3 to North Dakota State.
Box Score: Concordia
3 at North Dakota State 17
FARGO, N.D.-- They say that
revenge is a dish best served cold. On Monday, North Dakota State served
up
a huge dish of revenge on a cold platter. In a game played with the temperatures
hovering around 40 degrees, the Bison battered Concordia pitching for 17
runs and 20 hits, and NDSU cruised to a 17-3 victory in a game played at
Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, N.D.
The win avenges a 12-8 loss
at the hands of the Cobbers last season, the only loss that the Bison had
against non-NCAA Division I, II or top-flight NAIA schools in all of 2004.(More)

MOORHEAD-- With a stiff

traded blowout victories in a non-conference, midweek scoring fest in Moorhead.
The Cobbers bolted out of
the starting gate for nine runs in the first two innings of game one and
raced to a 13-1 victory in the opener. The Vikings then turned the tables
by scoring multiple runs in three of the seven innings in the second game
and eased their way to a 9-3 win.
The split puts Concordia's
overall record at 8-13-0. The Cobbers now have only one remaining non-conference
game on the schedule. They will face NDSU on May 2 to complete their 14-game
slate away from MIAC competition. Valley City, who has now split their

Kevin Engebretson Named
MIAC Pitcher of the Week!
Concordia sophomore pitcher
Kevin
Engebretson (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named the MIAC
Pitcher of the Week as announced by the MIAC league office. It is the first
time that Engebretson has received the honor, and he becomes the second
consecutive Cobber player to earn Player of the Week honors. Last week,
teammate Chris Klabo was named the MIAC Hitter/Fielder of the Week.
The award marks the 29th
time in 2004-05 that a Concordia athlete has won MIAC Player of the Week
honors. That is the most in one single academic calendar year for Concordia
since the league started to hand out Player of the Week awards in all team
sports starting in 2000.
Engebretson pitched a complete-game
against Hamline on Wednesday to pick up his first collegiate win in his
only appearance of the week. Engebretson masterfully mixed in his off-speed
pitches to keep the Hamline hitters off balance and pick up the win. He
did not allow an earned run, allowed only five hits and struck out six.
He also did not walk a batter in the game. Other than the lone run in the
fourth, he did not allow a runner to reach third base, and finished the
game by retiring seven of the final eight hitters.

Klabo hit .750 on the week

Thomas and did not make an error in the Cobbers' first two games of the
MIAC season.
