Augsburg had a 12-0 run late in the first half to break open a tight
game and take a 47-36 lead at the half. The Cobbers drew to within 77-71
with 5:52 to play on two Nick Killoran free throws. The Cobbers twice got
within 4 after that, but Auggie pulled away at the end. Devean George led
the Auggies with 34 points. Brian Kesselring led the Cobbers with 25. Concordia
travels to Carleton next for a Dec. 9 game. Auggie hosts Gustavus next
on Dec. 9.

Men's Basketball -- Augsburg 95, Concordia-Moorhead 83
MINNEAPOLIS - Devean George (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS) had game highs of 34 points and 11 rebounds in leading Augsburg College to a 95-83 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.
Augsburg is now 4-1 on the season. Concordia-Moorhead falls to 2-3. The game was the MIAC opener for both teams. Augsburg hosts Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday night, while Concordia travels to Carleton.
George also added four assists, a blocked shot and went 14-for-16 at the free-throw line to pace the Auggies, who had a balanced scoring attack. John Anderson (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) had 14 points, including four three-pointers. Jason Beckendorf (Jr., Lakeville, Minn.) and Kris Long (Sr., Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) had 10 points apiece, Long adding eight rebounds, five assists, two blocks and four steals.
Augsburg led 47-36 at halftime, but the Cobbers were able to rally back and cut the lead to as close as four points in the second half, before the Auggies pulled away for the victory. Concordia outrebounded the Auggies 40-30, but committed 26 turnovers compared to Augsburg's 16.
Concordia was paced by Brian Kesselring (Sr., Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS), who had 25 points and five rebounds. Kermit Cooper (Jr., Freeport, Bahamas/Devils Lake HS) had 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Wrobel (So., Willmar, Minn.) had 16 points and seven rebounds.
