Keith Eckhoff Named MIAC Player of the Week.
Concordia junior guard Keith Eckhoff (Alexandria, Minn./Jefferson HS) was named the MIAC Player of the Week for his three-game performance against Macalester, Carleton and North Dakota State University last week. Eckhoff averaged 27.0 points per game in the Cobbers three games last week. His biggest contribution to Concordia's two league wins was against Carleton where he scored 36 points and hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer in overtime. For the week, Concordia went
2-1 with their only loss coming to NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota
State University. Eckhoff led the Cobbers to a pair of league wins which
places the team right back in the MIAC playoff hunt.(More)
College Sporting News to Publish "Profiles of Excellence" Book. Throughout the past several seasons, many Concordia athletes have been profiled on the "College Sporting News" website. The articles are entitled "Profiles of Excellence" and are written by longtime MIAC reporter Rich Mies. They are written as a way of highlighting all the talented seniors from around the MIAC. Rich Mies has now compiled
all the "Profiles of Excellence" pieces and is offering them in a book.

- Concordia junior guard
Keith
Eckhoff (Alexandria, Minn.) is coming off a record-breaking, four-game
swing. Before Christmas he scored 38 points against UM-Morris. He returned
from break and promptly hung 26 on Macalester. His showcase game came against
Carleton last Wednesday when he exploded for 36 points and nailed the game-winning
shot as the buzzer sounded in overtime. He finished off his week by scoring
a game-high 19 points against NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota State
University.
Against Carleton, Eckhoff scored 15 of the team's 17 points in overtime and was 11-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-6 from 3-point range. In the four-game stint he averaged 29.75 points, shot 56.1% (32-of-57) from the floor, 60.0% (15-of-25) from 3-point range and 88.8% (40-of-45) from the free throw line. The Sports Weekly staff doesn't have an official record of best four-game individual statistics, but we think we are pretty safe in saying that those are the best four-game numbers in the history of the men's program.
- The month of January has been very good to Concordia in the past two seasons in the MIAC. Last year the Cobbers won seven of their 10 games in the first month of the calendar year. In 2005, they have started with two straight league wins. Over the course of the past 12 games in the month of January, the Cobbers have compiled an 9-3 record.
- The free throw line continues
to be a source of pride for the Cobber men's team. Last year, Concordia
set a school record and led the MIAC in free throw percentage (76.7%).
They were also ranked ninth in the NCAA Division III in that category at
the end of the season. They have picked up right where they left off. This
year they currently lead the MIAC with a 73.8% mark. There is some room
for improvement as Concordia is currently not ranked among the top 30 in
the nation.

- Last year's MIAC MVP Mandy Pearson (Sr., Watkins, Minn.) is having another banner year for the Cobbers. She recently became the first women's player in the history of the MIAC to record 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career. She currently has 1,083 points and 526 assists in her career. Her point total places her 14th on the Concordia all-time scoring list and she is currently fourth on the all-time assist list. - Cobber sophomore guard
Annie
Keeley (Grafton, N.D.) is currently third in the MIAC in 3-point field
goal percentage and 3-point field goals made. Keeley's ability to take,
and make, the 3-point shot is directly linked to the Cobbers' team success.
In the team's five wins this season, Keeley has averaged 4.6 3-point field
goals per game and has made an average of 3.0 shots from behind the arc.
In the team's four losses, she has shot an average of 3.5 long-range shots
and made only 1.25 per game.

- The Cobber men's hockey
team is currently tied for fifth place in the MIAC. They are in the thick
of the MIAC playoff hunt despite only winning one game this season. The
reason for that phenomenon is due to the fact that seven of the team's
losses have come at the hands of teams that play in the NCHA (Wisconsin
schools). Concordia has only lost three games in league play and two of
those came to nationally-ranked, and defending MIAC champion, St. John's.
The Cobbers will play two critical home series in the next three weeks.
This weekend they play Gustavus, who is winless in their two MIAC games
this season, and Hamline, who is bringing up the rear in the MIAC.
- Two Cobber players are
in the top 10 in the league in goals scored in conference play. Nate
Ronning (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) and Brett Johnson (Jr.,
Thief River Falls, Minn.) have both scored three goals in the team's first
four league games and are curently ranked eighth in the league.

- Concordia has done a tremendous
job of not taking the mistimed penalty this season. The Cobbers are currently
third in the nation in least amount of penalty minutes. In their first
nine games of the season, they are averaging only 8.8 minutes of penalties
per game. That total is almost three minutes less per game from last season's
total when they averaged 11.4 penalty minutes per game.

- The Concordia swimming
and diving team recently traveled to Florida over Christmas break for a
holiday training trip. The Cobbers stayed on the Gulf of Mexico side of
Florida near Clearwater. The team trained from December 27 - January 2
at an outdoor park facility that had a competition swimming pool as well
as a diving area.
- The Cobbers will host their
final home meet of the season when they compete against Hamline and UM-Morris.
After Saturday's competition, Concordia will have two more dual meets and
also a single multi-team invitational. The conference championship meet
will be held on February 17-19 at the University of Minnesota.

Nagel brings a wealth of wrestling experience and success to the program. For the past 17 years he has been the head coach at Frazee High School. While under the tutelage of Nagel, the Hornets won three Minnesota state championships and 13 section titles. He was named the Minnesota State High School Class "A" Coach of the Year in 1999. He has also been named the Region Coach of the Year seven times and the Sub-Section Coach of the Year on six different occasions. In 1999 he was elected the President of the Minnesota Wrestling Coaches Association. - The Cobbers competed at
the Dickinson Invitational last weekend, but, as of this realease time,
no results have been reported. Concordia will compete at the Terry Haws
Dual Tournament on Saturday. After this weekend, Concordia will have three
straight dual meets. Next week, the Cobbers will travel to Aberdeen, S.D.
to compete against Northern State, and will then host MSU-Moorhead and
St. John's on Saturday, January 22. Concordia will wrestle the Dragons
at 6:00pm and then turn around and compete against the Johnnies at 7:30pm.
