Season Outlook/Notes:
Macalester made a great deal of progress last winter under new coach
Curt Kietzer, posting its best win total since 1988-89 and equaling the
win total from the previous four years combined. Now in his second year,
Kietzer is looking for the Scots to make another move forward in the always-tough
MIAC.
The Scots must replace the league's third-leading rebounder in center
Rob Sader (12.7 ppg.,/9.0 rpg.) and a guard with 226 career three-pointers
in Jordan Barnhorst, but optimism is high for a successful season. Four-year
starting forward T.J. Mahony (Sr., Boulder, CO) returns to lead the way.
Mahony was named to the MIAC's All-Defensive team after being asked to
always guard the opposition's top player regardless of position. He averaged
11.7 ppg., and 4.8 rpg. Guard/forward Doug Hoffert (Jr., Bloomington, MN/Jefferson)
picked up 8.2 ppg. and 3.4 rpg. last year and can knock down the three
pointer. Point guard Evan Bass (So., Chandler, AZ) was Mac's top reserve
last season and was among the MIAC's assist leaders by season's end. Ben
Goodman (Jr., Phoenix, OR) averaged 6.0 ppg. from his starting forward
spot and Chris Franca (Jr., Davison, MI) saw action as the backup center.
