10/31 Concordia Shines in Halloween Win.
Concordia scored eleven minutes into the Halloween match-up with Bethel
and held on for a 2-0 win. Junior Gennard Lombardozzi (Billings, MT) headed
home a Luke Dewey (So., Anoka, MN) dead ball cross and gave the Cobbers
a 1-0 lead at the 11:26 mark. The scored remained 1-0 until the 78th minute
when Chance Buzzell (Jr., Anoka, MN) played a through ball past the Royal
defense and sent Paul Poduska in alone with the goalkeeper. Poduska calmly
slotted the ball into the far corner and finished the scoring for the game.
Kris Overby (Fr., Fargo, ND) stopped all six Bethel shots and recorded
his seventh shutout of the season, one shy of the school record. Concordia
now jumps into fourth place in the MIAC, with one game reamaining. The
final contest of the 2000 season will be on Saturday when the Cobbers play
host to St. John's at 1:00. Overall Concordia is now 9-6-2 and sets their
sights on a 10 win season. They also have a chance to finish as high as
third place in the MIAC.
